Domestic Violence Wear Many Tags (DVWMT) presents Brokenness to Boldness Monologues. The brokenness-to-boldness monologues are a marathon of survivor stories carefully developed by QueenAfi, Mental Health Consultant. She carefully developed a unique platform gently encouraging real victims and abusers (m/f) to comfortably reach deeper to intimately connect dots unknown through drama therapy. The monologues are thoughts, feelings, and specific movements based on no words spoken. There are many effective methods, but the chosen method for the monologues is theater of the oppressed. Theater of the oppressed is to change the state of illness and/or crisis, which is the concentrated essence of drama-based intervention. Due to the cathartic nature of dramatic artistic expression, drama itself tends to promote good mental health. However, drama therapy consists of more than just acting. Like art, music, and dance therapies, drama therapy uses the art form as a springboard for deeper, more meaningful work with participants (www.GoodTherapy.com).
“Drama therapy in a safe space allows victims to see a reverse in roles; victims can process the abuser's role, whereas in another space this could be difficult” (QueenAfi, 2016). Being able to reverse roles or watching others reverse roles can offer the survivor an opportunity to process the traumatic experience with far greater depth, deepening the therapeutic work. Theoretical tools provide a much greater range than verbal instructions in the real space used by CBT approaches (Johnson & Sajnani, 2014).
